The Scott 1360 6 Cent Stamp Cherokee Strip Land Rush
In 1892, congress approved the purchase of a 6.2 million acre parcel of land in the Oklahoma Territory from the Cherokee Indians at the price of $1.40 per acre. On September 16, 1893, the land was opened for homesteading, resulting in a stampede as 100,000 homesteaders raced to acquire one of the 40,000 available homesteads.
